Therapist
Classification: Nonexempt (Seasonal)
Reports to: Team Leaders
Position Purpose
The Therapist is responsible for overseeing the emotional health and safety of campers and staff.
Essential Job Functions
1. Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers.
- Collaborate with other medical staff to meet medical needs.
- Follow health care policies/procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures.
- Provide support with parents and families before, during, and after programs.
2. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards.
- Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file.
- Prepare and utilize daily medical log for counseling sessions.
- Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms.
3. Ensure a staff orientation session is delivered on child behavior and basic psychology.
- Ensure camp staff and campers know their role related to emotional health and child behavior.
4. Assist with screening of all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
- Verify health history and examination.
- Verify emergency authorization.
- Identify any observable evidence of illness or emotional issues.
- Conduct a psychological assessment.
5. Supervise emotionally supportive conditions throughout camp.
- Observe daily behavior with staff and campers.
- Intervene and consult with individuals involved with bullying.
- Report any problems to the Camp Director.
Other Job Duties
- Perform any tasks beyond those assigned as help is needed.
- Develop a resource file and obtain information and/or literature concerning emotional health in the camp community.
- Be responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their child’s emotional health by telephone in the following situations: destructive behavior, abnormally negative emotions, signs of sexual or emotional abuse.
- Be knowledgeable of outside health resources.
Relationships
A Therapist relates to the Nurse to ensure overall health for all team members and campers. Work with all team members to provide support as needed. Communicate all situations with the Executive Director and campers’ family members.
Qualifications
- BA in Psychology, social work, or sociology (final internship hours needed is acceptable)
- Driver’s license.
- Experience in both children and adult psychology.
- Desire to work with children and young adults.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Training and experience in supervision of children.
- Training and experience as child counselor desired.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language and Deaf culture.
Physical Aspects of the Position
- Ability to lift/assist campers and staff.
- Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
- Ability to use a telephone.
- Maintain written record system.
- Observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.
- Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.
- Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.
- Ability to drive to off-camp health provider, physician, or emergency treatment locations.
- Ability to endure standing for long hours and doing activities such as running, bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
- Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours.

Notes
- This position does not provide medical/dental/vision care, personal transportation, postage, personal meals, personal cell phones, or cable.
- To protect the safety of our participants, team members, and community members, background checks and drug testing will be required of all hired team members. Drug testing will be randomly performed throughout programs.
- To ensure fair storage space for all, temporary team members are limited to one large (30″) suitcase OR one medium suitcase (24″) and one small suitcase (20″) OR three small suitcases (20″).
- Aspen Camp is not responsible for lost, broken, stolen, or left-behind items.
- Aspen Camp is a non-smoking campus.
- Pets are not allowed for any reason. Properly certified service animals are acceptable and all related expenses are the responsibility of the owner.
